Our Beliefs

Our Mission & Purpose

To direct people toward God, develop them toward mature Christianity, and drive them to serve others.

Our Vision

Being touched by God to build community and change our world.

What does it mean to be touched by God? We depend on God's guidance and the Holy Spirit's inspiration to do His will. Without the divine assignment from God, we can do nothing. When we say we are "touched by God", we mean we are moved, inspired, motivated, called, and deployed to serve with and through Him.

What does it mean to build community? We are called to love one another and invite everyone into koininia. This is an intimate, spiritual communion where we participate in sharing, caring, worshipping God, and loving everyone.

What does it mean to change our world? We, as a church, are called to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16). It is through our obedient and faithful service and prayer unto the Lord that we are able to make a positive change in our world. The change God seeks is not just one of positivity, but of turning our hearts toward Him in complete surrender and worship.

Our Statement of Faith

We, the members of Lawrence Evangelical Church, are committed to a biblical, Christ-centered understanding and practice of the Christian life, based on these truths:

  • There is one eternal, holy God who is the Creator and sovereign Lord of all that exists, and who is three persons in one essence – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  • We're all born sinful, but Jesus dies for our sins and saves us from eternal damnation.

  • God the Father gave His Son as our Redeemer, spoke of Him through prophets, and guided us through His loving care.

  • God the Son, Jesus Christ, lived an unblemished life and then willingly died as a sacrifice for the sins of all humanity, thus fulfilling God's plan of salvation.

  • God the Holy Spirit, who is present in all places, knows everything, and sees everything, can give us guidance, comfort, and wisdom in all kinds of circumstances.

  • The Bible, as it is divided into Old and New Testaments, is God's inspired Word, inerrant and infallible, authoritative and true in all it says, guiding the lives of believers.

  • The Church is the living body of Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit to preach the good news of his kingdom, make disciples of all nations, and cultivate a worship community that teaches the truth of God, glorifies his glory, and matures Christians.

  • Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are sacraments Christ gave us in order that we identify with Him, recall His sacrifice, and proclaim His salvation.

  • Jesus Christ will return in power and glory, the dead will be raised, and all will stand before him in the final judgment—those faithful to eternal life and the lost forever separated from God.

  • God will restore his creation and image in us from a fallen state, and for his glory and our joy he will live with his people forever.
